And that's why I'm thinking of all the people I'd rather not be, and how my situation is better than theirs. Like I'm glad I'm not the can-picker-upper people, since it's about 3 degrees out right now. And I'm definitely glad I'm not our building maintenance guy, because he's the one who'll be up there in the roof replacing frozen (and now burst) pipes.
Yeah. Yesterday began with no water in the kitchen. Then (after I went off to church) it started raining hot water in the bathroom. pirateofcatan managed to mostly get our stuff out of the bathroom before the suspended ceiling started falling in. But then overnight, apparently another pipe burst (hopefully the cold water for upstairs, and not one of ours....flooding the bathroom again, and also getting the living room pretty damp this time. We put the futon mattress outside, intending to throw it out, but then I relented because a) it's not all that wet and b) I'd rather not buy a new one just to have this happen again next month. So I'll at least consult with the PoC first. He has to work today. Fortunatetly, I do not....but I'm at work anyway, because the water to the whole building is now off, and I had to use the bathroom.
I feel a bit bad, because we didn't hear the water running at night. I even got the maintenance guy to show me where the shutoff was in the really scary basement. But we sleep with the bedroom door closed, and we didn't hear it. Probably the girl directly below us called it in--I can't figure out how else the water got turned off overnight.
so, anyone have any good advice on how to buy a house with not all-that-much-money? At least houses are pretty cheap out here in CNY.
I'm partly joking. And partly not. If I could figure out a feasible way for us to buy a house this summer, I'd do it.
But now, I should go back home and see what else has gone wrong. Oh, and maybe prepare for the class that I'm teaching tomorrow.
