We're back in Syracuse now, having successfully flown to and from Denver. We arrived about 24 hours after the airport had re-opened (having been closed by the blizzard) and left about 6 hours before United canceled all outgoing flights! (And we almost missed our flight--only made it because the plane arrived late from Seattle. The check-in line was an hour long, and security was a good 1/2 hour.)

We had a great time with my uncle, my eventually-to-be-aunt, my brother and my father. I know we all missed Mom, and I'm really glad we did Christmas at my uncle's rather than Dad's. (The family Christmas has been at Mom and Dad's for years now, so that would have been much harder.) We ate a lot of good food (mostly Indian), got to play Carcassonne a bunch--it might be our new favorite game, and went to the natural history museum to look at the dinosaurs.

Having returned to Syracuse, we drove to VT the next day to see [livejournal.com profile] pirateofcatan's mother and sister, and sister's boyfriend and boyfriend's 6-year-old. A quick visit, though we did find time to replace 2 light fixtures in the bathroom, the GFCI outlet in the bathroom, the ceiling light in the kitchen that was going to burn down the house, and all the batteries in the smoke detectors. 80-year old houses are a pain. PoC's mother is good about maintaining the appearance of the house, but some of the structural (and all of the electrical) stuff is beyond her.

Then it was back home again for good, where I promptly developed a cold. Washing my head out with saline helped, and it seems to be going away. And we're back at work, having struck the holiday show and begun putting in the next show this week.

That might be it. A happy new year to all!

So, I don't really go in for New Year's Resolutions, but would someone please poison me if I ever become either of the following people:

--The person who gets into the subway/train and then chooses to stand directly in the doorway, blocking the door, while other people are trying to get on and off, oblivious to the fact that they (and their backpack) are in the way.

--The person who makes a left-hand turn from the inner of two left-hand turn lanes, and turns into the outer of the two lanes. (This happens ALL THE TIME around here.) You can always tell who's going to do it, too, which is probably why I still have an undamaged car!

that said, would someone please tap me gently on the shoulder (and NOT poison me) if I become that crabby lady who never has anything good to say about anyone and complains all the time!
