Lots of exams this week: Psych, Nutrition (my online class), another exam in Theory--this one was a quasi-standardized "fundamentals" test--meant to help us prepare for the certification exam, I guess, but it counted for part of our grade in the course. I had a simulation on Friday, and it was on hypoglycemia! (see week 11...) Having just reviewed the hypoglycemia protocol pretty intensively, the simulation went well!
I'm definitely starting to feel like the semester is winding down now. We have 2 more weeks of clinical, but no more exams in Theory until the week after clinical has ended (woohoo!). We really only have 2 more topics in Theory--lower GI diseases, and HIV/AIDS. Various assignments are getting checked off the list--one of the things that we've had to do based on our clinical experiences is an assignment called a Tanner's Model. It's basically a protracted way of writing out our assessment and response to a situation we encountered in clinical. I wrote one last week on the hypoglycemic patient. We've had to do 3 of these total--2 in the first half, and 1 in the second half. However, if they're not deemed acceptable, we have to do them again (either revise them or pick a new topic). Mine was accepted, so now I don't need to do any more! I still do plenty of writing, though--each week we are required to turn in "Self-reflections" in answer to a list of specific questions. Last week, I think mine was 7 pages long, and they are due at 9am Friday morning. Since I'm in class from 8am-5pm on Thursdays, I really need to get the whole thing written on Wednesday afternoon when I get home from Clinical....but I'm usually pretty wiped out by then, and can't focus on them.
I think that's all the news. Good night!
