not a good start
Jun. 1st, 2006 08:30 pmAll sorts of things to update, most of them bad. (If you're curious--I don't F-lock these posts because some non-LJ friends keep up with things here. But if you don't like medical things, you might want to skip this one.)
Tuesday--flew back east. When Mom went in for her doctor's appointment, they admitted her to the hospital, concerned about the increasing gallbladder problems.
Dad apparently developed a case of food poisoning, so between driving back and forth to the hospital (an hour away) and the illness, he was completely exhausted.
I, of course, only learned this after landing in VT... Drove up to the workplace and got in very late, with a screaming headache, and worried about the wierd noise the front end of the car was making.
Wednesday--Woke up with same screaming headache. They aspirated 3 liters of liquid from Mom's abdomen. They were going to assay the fluid and then decide what to do today--maybe an endoscopy to check things out from the inside.
Checked in at work, although my contract didn't start until today. Took car to get it looked at--was lucky and found a dealership that would take me immediately and shuttle me to and from my work-assigned housing. Learned that I had a bad wheel bearing (which was fixed under warranty) but also needed new rear brakes (which they fixed, but NOT under warranty....)
Thursday--First day of work. Work started at 9am. At about 9:05,
pirateofcatan fell 3 feet off the front of the stage, catching his left arm on a piece of scenery on the way down. This resulted in a dislocation at the shoulder and a fracture to the top of the humerus (sp?). So, we spent the day at the hospital in the ER. I've never seen him in so much pain. Fortunately, they knocked him out before they wrapped a bedsheet around his torso (to pull against) and pulled his arm back into place... They'll be dealing with the chipped bone via surgery sometime soon--it's a part of the rotator cuff, and may be affecting some of the nerves to his arm--we'll learn more when we go see the orthopedist on Monday. He currently has some feeling in his fingers, but can barely move them.
So, since he'll be laid up for a few days with a giant splint and a bunch of Percoset, anyone seen anything funny on the web recently? I know that many of you don't know him (or don't know him well) but if it amuses or interested you, I bet it'll appeal to him...
Haven't called Mom yet today--will probably do that next.
