We spent the weekend working at the new house (while still living at the old apartment). PoC more than I, because I had to work for part of Saturday, but all in all we got a lot accomplished.
PoC spent most of yesterday replacing the worst of the exterior doors: the basement walk-out door that only had a 75" high opening (standard doors these days are 80"). It involved a lot of tools, plus two runs to the shop at work--once for the Sawzall, and once to use the table saw.
The ridiculous electrical project (running a line up behind where the new stove will be for a vent fan/light fixture), which has taken way longer than it should have, is nearly done--just sanding and painting to do, and install said fan/light fixture.
All of the shades on the chandelier now match, and the light switch no longer gets hot when the light is on.
The lawn has been mowed, using the John Deere self-propelled mower given to us by some friends from my church. Hence the "vroom!" I had never used a gas mower, and it appears that I can't pull the cord fast enough to get it started. Once running, however, it does great! The lawn has been pretty neglected, but at least now we won't feel like we need to mow (on top of everything else) right after moving in.
All the kitchen shelves have been leveled, and holes drilled in the *right* places for additional pegs. I swear, those shelves are not the ones that go with those cabinets! Bathroom towel bars are installed, as are brackets for closet rods (being cut on the cold saw at work today). The bathtub has been caulked.
Still to do...have the Sears folks come and install the new part for the hot water heater (and fix the gas leak!). Have some other Sears folks deliver the stove, and the Lowe's folks deliver the refrigerator. Get some more curtain rods and put them up in the bedrooms, since we're having guests 2 weeks after we move in. Get some fabric and make (or at least pin) another set of curtains.
Best of all--the people next door (we already can't stand them!) are apparently moving out in a couple of weeks! I assume they'll take their 2 dogs (who bark ALL THE TIME when left in the house) and their muffler-less car with them. I probably won't believe it 'til I see it (and the next tenants could be just as bad) but I'm still hopeful.

The fast and fun of home improvement!
I've been in my house for three years and still haven't installed the vent strips I bought in Vermont. At least I tightened the roof screws over the summer.
