December?!

Good grief have we been busy recently!  At work, I've been busy putting in the Christmas show, which always goes into tech rehearsals over Thanksgiving weekend.  (And since you asked, no, it doesn't bother us at all when people on the administrative end of our organization send out emails saying things like "enjoy the long holiday weekend, everyone!")  Without even working *on* Thanksgiving day, I logged 50+ hours last week.  At home, I've been trying to get gifts under way, and finish the work for my math class (seriously, who thinks group projects are a good idea?!  No one, that's who.)  My first nursing school application is due on January 1st (though it isn't my first choice school, but I figure I should apply because it's in town and there's no guarantee that I'll get into my first choice!).

PoC, meanwhile, has been doing freelance work and also working a part-time overnight job at a major retailer.  The upside--it may provide him with benefits if he stays there another 4 months (or so) and it's income that *isn't* self-employment.  The downside--his sleep schedule is really screwy now, and this week he also came down with the Cold of Death.

I've been feeling very...worn thin...recently.  Nothing terrible, just my usual feeling of "I'll never get everything done before Christmas" combined with there being a *lot* (recently) of reasons why I'd really like to get into nursing school next year and have this be my last year at my current employer.  It would also be awesome if I weren't getting headaches on a daily basis and if I could convince myself to go to bed before about 1:30am when I need to get up for work at 7am (I'm sure there's no causal relationship there!).

BUT, when I came home from work on Saturday (after a 10-hour day with no break), PoC had put up all the Christmas decorations!  We haven't decided whether to have a tree this year, so he put lights in some new places, and put nails above many of the door frames to hold a good number of our favorite ornaments.  I just walked around the house smiling and looking at stuff for a while.  AND on Sunday morning I was able to go to church (not work!), which I was glad to do because it was the first Sunday of Advent and I felt like I needed some reminding about what the Christmas season is *really* leading towards.  I especially appreciate that our minister emphasizes reflection and quiet during Advent--it's a time of waiting and anticipation, which can be really hard to focus on when I'm feeling like "I have to do all this NOW!  There will never be time if I don't do it NOW!"

So, happy December, y'all.  As we approach the end of the year and the beginning of winter, I wish for room to breathe--both for me and for everyone else who feels like they need it.

December?!

Don't rush me; I've still got a good 24 minutes of November to cling to here.

And wishing us all room to breathe and reflect at this time of year is wonderful--right back atcha!

Thanks! And apologies for hastening December onto you: November is a fine month (if I may say so as a November baby) and I'd hate for you to lose a moment of it!

Thanks! That *would* probably calm a lot of my compulsive must-do-dishes, must-finish-homework-that-isn't-due-till-next-week issues. ("But then when would I get those things done?" asks the compulsive voice) I also just need to re-train myself to shoot for, say, midnight, even when PoC is off at work.

You're on my mind too! Glad to hear the final weeks are going well!
